Siemens LD-Robicon (Pittsburgh, USA) sold five 2,000HP (1,500KW) and two 7,500HP (5,625KW) 6.600Vac, Robicon Prefect Harmony Frequency Inverters to Exxon Mobil. The Inverters were manufactured in Pittsburgh, USA, by Siemens LD-Robicon. The units were then shipped to Bradgate (Pty) Ltd in Leeds, England for containerization. Saftronics were sub-contracted by Siemens South Africa to conduct a F.A.T. at Bradgate and final start-up commissioning of all seven units in the city of Kome in Chad.
Tenke Fungurume purchased two 11KV, 3,4MW Medium Voltage Soft Starters directly from Saftronics. Units were F.A.T in Florida USA, which was attend by the Consultant and our Service Engineer increasing the guarantee from 1 to 3 years.
Rossing Uranium Mine (Barlow), Purchased two Atlas Copco Compressors, from Atlas Copco in the United States of America. In each of the compressors is a Medium Voltage Soft Starter manufactured by Motortronics Inc. Saftronics, an authorised agent for Motortronics in Africa were requested to attend to a service break down at Rossing Mine. The Thyristor Power Components failed.
Saftronics were contracted to manufacture two 500KW DC Drives and Field controllers for a 400 Ton Mining Shovel. The Shovel had been flooded in an open mine pit, during the torrential rains in year 2000, which caused huge loss of life in neighbouring Mozambique. The Shovel could not be moved and was preventing further mining, but Saftronics manufactured the Electrical DC Control panels within a week and had them shipped to site. After a fair amount of digging and manoeuvring, the huge shovel was able to be moved onto the exit road from the pit.
Saftronics were the contract to revamp an existing ABB Rectifier. 200Vac at 20,000Amp’s, for their Paper pulp blenching plant in Springs. The Rectifier was delivered to Saftronics, were all the electronic controls were removed and replaced by Saftronics standard Fiber Optic firing modules. A new PLC installed and all relevant existing interlock designed into the new system.
Lumwana Copper Mine purchased two 2,000KW and two 1,000KW Robicon Frequency Inverters from Siemens, South Africa. One of the 2MW Robicon Drives Multi-Phase transformer flashed during power-up and had to be replaced. During this period an 11KV Distribution transformer cable box short circuited and cause a fire, damaging the two 1MW Robicon drives in the process. A decision was made to have the faulty drives repaired by Saftronics in South Africa, rather than sending back to Siemens in the UK. A quick turnaround time was required.
